Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 July 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Dear Diary, app ("Dear Diary,", "the app"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Comfort, not treatment

Dear Diary, is a personal journaling and reflection tool. It is not therapy, not a medical or mental-health device, and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Any reflections, prompts, patterns, or insights are for comfort and self-reflection only — they cannot diagnose a condition or tell you how to treat one. Always follow the guidance of a qualified professional, and never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you have read or recorded in the app.

In a crisis

If you are in danger or considering harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line immediately. Dear Diary, is not intended for use in an emergency. The app includes a support & crisis resources card for convenience, but it is not a substitute for professional or emergency help.

Free and Plus

Dear Diary, is free to use. The core experience — writing entries, the gentle close reflection, crisis and calm resources, locking and exporting your entries, and voice memos — stays free.

Dear Diary, Plus unlocks additional features (such as the constellation and year-in-review views, unlimited letters to your future self, soundtracking entries, Apple Health, and cross-device iCloud sync with at-rest encryption). Plus can be unlocked in one of three ways:

You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings. What you buy, you keep — we do not add retroactive paywalls to features you already have.

Your content

Your entries are yours. They are stored on your device (and, if you enable it, your own private iCloud), and you can export or delete them at any time. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Not affiliated with Bring Me The Horizon

Dear Diary, is named in tribute to the Bring Me The Horizon song. The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Bring Me The Horizon. Band, song, and album names are the property of their respective owners.

Changes

If these Terms change, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
